Meghna Khanna and I (Emmanuel Soriano) are privileged to be serving you as YPG Coordinators in 2012. On January 16th, the APA-LA's Board of Directors had its retreat to discuss and set-out APA-LA's goals for the year. Please feel free to give our goals a look and to suggest anything that we could do to make your YPG experience that much more enriching.
Mission and Goals

The YPG’s mission this year is to provide opportunities for the region’s young planners to participate in a social and professional network; to assist young planners in their on-going professional development; and to contribute to the region’s communities through volunteerism. Although a resource for all planners, YPG emphasizes on planners under the age of thirty-five and those who may have less than 10 years of professional planning experience.

Increase Membership to APA through the YPG

Transitional planners (from students to professionals) are a constant presence in the region. By making the YPG more welcoming through events and programming, we can attract these professionals who not only see the importance of belonging to the APA, but also the value of being connected to a wider network of young planners like themselves.

Some of these stations possess stronger characteristics of TOD than others. Successful TOD stations have proven to be huge components in sustainability plans, as they can help significantly reduce GHG emissions. With the present push of SB 375, TOD planning has become the new hot topic and preferred tool of choice for planners, developers, and cities to implement as apart of their sustainable community strategy in order for these cities and agencies to meet their SB 375 goals.

APA LA is partnering with the City of Pasadena's Planning and Transportation departments to educate and display the great TOD elements found in the City of Pasadena.
Taco trucks and food vending has increasingly become a “hot” topic in more established urban environments due to economic factors and land use constraints. The taco truck craze has taken on new evolutions where corporate entities are gentrifying the industries seemingly squeezing out the traditional taco truck entrepreneurs. The discussion aims to focus on the Los Angeles County and City ordinances and the complex road facing planners as they try to resolve the demand for mobile food vending with land use constraints while being sensitive to the traditional ethnic origins of taco trucks as technology evolves the industry.
